Job application forms in Framer: how to add one
Framer's built-in form can neither receive files nor handle job applications. What you need to manage them properly, GDPR included.
Published
Your website is built with Framer and you want to publish your job openings on it. Then come the applications: a name, an email address and, above all, a CV. This is where Framer’s form reaches its limits. Here’s why, and how to handle job applications with Framer.
What Framer’s form does
Framer has a built-in form: text, email and phone fields, checkboxes, dropdowns. On submit, responses go to one of three destinations: an email, a Google Sheets spreadsheet or a webhook to another tool.
Framer passes responses on; it doesn’t keep them for you: it doesn’t store the data. There is no candidate database in your project, no list to sort, no status. That isn’t its job: Framer builds websites, not recruiting forms or job boards.
No field for CVs and cover letters
Most importantly, the built-in form has no file field. A candidate can’t attach a CV or cover letter. For a contact form, that’s fine. For a job application, it’s a dead end.
The Framer Marketplace has components that add this field and let you store documents. But beware: most of them send files to a storage service you set up yourself (Google Drive, Cloudinary, Supabase…), then put a link in the form responses. The CV does land somewhere, but nothing covers what happens next: who can access it, how long it’s kept, how to delete it.
What proper application handling requires
A job application holds personal data: identity, contact details, career history, sometimes a photo. In the EU, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) naturally applies, and national regulators spell out the rules. Three points matter here.
A limited retention period
You can’t keep applications forever. The GDPR requires a retention period matched to the purpose. In France, the CNIL accepts up to two years after the last contact for unsuccessful candidates, provided they are informed. After that, the data must go, CVs included.
Someone still has to remember. With CVs spread across several inboxes, a shared folder and a spreadsheet, deletion in practice never happens.
Access limited to the people involved
Only the people in charge of recruiting should see applications: whoever is hiring, the future manager of the role, management. Not the whole company.
Files kept safe
CVs and cover letters must be stored with appropriate security measures. A file sent by a stranger may also carry malware: opening it straight from your inbox isn’t harmless.
Finally, you must be able to answer a candidate who asks to see or erase their data, by finding every application they sent.
The simple way to manage job applications in Framer: Plugply
Plugply adds a real job application form to your Framer site, connected to a workspace where your team handles applications. The site stays yours: Plugply doesn’t create a separate careers page and integrates natively with Framer.
A form that accepts CVs
The Plugply form goes straight into your Framer pages with a Plugin available on the Framer Marketplace. It lets candidates apply with a CV (PDF or Word, up to 10 MB) and an optional cover letter. Candidates don’t need an account. On a job page, the form knows which role the candidate is applying for; elsewhere, candidates pick the role or apply speculatively. The form blends into your site: its colours, corner radius and wording adapt to your brand.
Files go straight from the candidate’s browser to our storage, in France, with OVHcloud. They never pass through Framer, and each file is scanned for viruses before anyone can open it.
Applications shared, not forwarded
Applications arrive in Plugply’s back office, sorted by job. The people you invite review them in one place: CV preview, status (to review, shortlisted, interview, selected, rejected), internal notes. Each application’s history shows who viewed it and what changed. No more forwarding CVs by email to get an opinion.
Automatic deletion
You choose a retention period, up to 24 months. When it ends, each application is deleted along with its files, with nothing for you to do. When a candidate exercises their rights, an admin finds all their applications from their email address, to send them or delete them.
Your jobs in Framer’s CMS
The Plugin also copies your jobs into a Framer CMS collection. You lay them out like the rest of your site, and search engines index them like your other pages.
Plugply is the first solution built natively for Framer, and it’s simple to set up. Plugply is free for a 14-day trial, with no commitment. Setup takes a few minutes: see how it works.
